Cam

I’m Cameron, but you can call me Cam, mate, bud, champ, skipper or whatever really.

Lib’s notes: very 90s, obsessed, feels like a photo I’ll show my future grandkids

I’m 24 years old from Hertfordshire, which is about 30 miles north of London. I have been lucky enough to travel a decent amount of the world as a child and most definitely inherited my parents love for travel. When they were young they travelled around the world visiting South America, Africa, New Zealand and countless more places. They loved travelling so much that they’d signed the papers to move to Canada when someone else came into their lives and ruined those plans… (me). Despite all their travelling the one place they never managed to get to was Australia. So I thought I ought to take one for the team and tick Australia off the list.

Lib’s notes: Cam looks very handsome in this one I think

For those that don’t know me I’m pretty sport mad. I live and breathe sport, whether that’s watching, playing, talking about it or studying it. I love it and for me it has given me so much. It has most definitely shaped me as a person so it’ll be the thing I most definitely miss from home (except my family and dogs). Yet I’m sure I’ll throw myself into some new sports and meet plenty of new people. Running about in 5 degrees, to running about in 30+ degrees. How hard can it be…

I always wanted to travel and hated the idea of getting into a 9-5 in the city and slaving away. Thankfully my family has always supported me and after going to Uni in Edinburgh for 4 years, I moved back home and worked for a year or so to save up for travelling.

Lib’s notes: no, he was not allowed in the house after this photo was taken, he was hosed down in the garden first

Thankfully I found a pretty good travel partner in Lib, despite requiring a little more persuasion that travelling to the other side of the world would be the best thing ever. I’m glad she reluctantly agreed. She’s taught me a few things along the way, I’m a proper go with the flow and let it sort itself out kinda guy. Lib taught me that although that may have worked up until now, sometimes (and I must emphasise only sometimes) a little bit of planning and organisation can help. So after purchasing flights in July 2024 we didn’t do any planning until about a week before we were due to leave in February 2025.

Lib’s notes: Cam cycles? Yes he does

And before I knew it I was on the plane on the way to Australia. For me, this chapter of my life was about pushing myself and Lib outside of our comfort zones. Experiencing something new and different and overcoming all the ups and downs it may throw at us together. Although on the outside I may have been calm and relaxed and looking forward to it, inside there was still the fear of the unknown. Something which excites and scares me, but I believe is a big part of growing as a person. I mean what’s the worst that can happen right!?

So as I sit here in the sun, unsure about what the next day holds, join me for the journey!
