2 Month Catch Up

As I sit here on a Saturday afternoon with an Emu Export in hand and the Western Force vs Highlanders on in the background it seems about time I gave a little update about everything going on.
Since arriving 2 months ago its been a roller coaster of a journey with so many unknowns, challenges and changes. I’m glad to say I’m feeling pretty settled and really quite enjoying the change of scenery and the new normal.
I sit here a little tired after an early morning cafe shift and despite starting the week with 1 job, I have somehow now ended up with 3 jobs and before you ask; no, I don’t have a clue how I’m going to balance them all. But I guess that’s one thing I’m really enjoying about this journey, balancing problems I’ve never had before and actually thoroughly enjoying working which hasn’t always been the case in the UK. Being able to work knowing it can fund some amazing once in a lifetime trips is something which is really exciting me. Hopefully over the coming months we can get a few road trips in up and down the west coast.
I’m also really enjoying meeting people through work whether that be Australians, other people from the UK or other places such as Colombia. One great thing about meeting all these people is being able to hear about all the places they’ve visited and where they’d recommend and avoid. For those thinking of travelling I cannot stress how much I recommend talking to people about things they’ve found useful and any ‘hacks’ they have found. It really helps you understand where you are living and can make you feel comfortable so much quicker.
In other news it reached a breezy 26 degrees this week which prompted the Golf Club I work at to turn on the fire and the heaters outside. You can imagine the shock from the employees from the UK. I also had a run in with the ‘men in grey suits’ AKA SHARKS. A lovely day at the beach with friends and a nice swim quickly turned into us sprinting out of the sea with a panic I’ve never quite experienced before. Helicopters flying low over us shouting out of a speaker to evacuate the water due to a 2m shark spotted only 50m offshore. After an hour they reopened the sea after announcing over megaphone they are confident the shark has left. This wasn’t enough to convince me and instead I decided to head to the nearest pub for happy hour.
Over the last month or so another thing I have really gotten into is running. I always loved the idea of running along the beachfront as the sun rises and grabbing a coffee and pastry but have never really been a big fan of running. I prefer chasing a ball around a field usually. But despite this I’ve managed to build my way up a few K’s at a time and its now something I’m really enjoying. It’s an amazing way to explore and a bit of fresh air and exercise can do you the world of good.
Anyway that’s a quick round up of some of the things that have been going on. What’s next you ask? We have no idea and that seems very fun and exciting. We’ve applied for jobs at a ski resort, yes that’s right, a ski resort in Australia, that could be super fun, but then heading up towards Darwin could also be really fun! And it turns out Australia is pretty big so there’s a lot of options. Anyway that’s not an issue for now and we’ll work it out as we go!
